Essam Elsafy, Shorewest Realtors Northshore - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Neither provided the opportunity to develop deeper Relationships with people he thought was necessary to the sales process, so he began selling Real Estate for Shorewest Realtors. He discusses his career and his approach to the profession in this edited interview. That was sort of like running my own company within Target because I was a buyer there and was responsible for pricing, marketing and what not around what I was buying. One day I realized that what I liked most about sales was the personal relationships and that selling real estate suited that best, so I woke up just like any other day and decided to quit. That same day in 1998 I got my real estate license and have been a Realtor ever since. The families that ask for your help and counsel, the families you help along the way. Every time someone asks me to help them buy or sell a house, I feel it and it’s fun for me. It creates a great deal of stress on families on a personal level and they’re making financial sacrifices on a financial level when they sell their homes for less than they’d hoped for. It’s hard to help people to work through that. From there, it takes really great real estate skills. Anyone can show a home and put out a sign, but it’s really the strategy you employ, the marketing skills, and the negotiating skills — helping people past the pitfalls. Right now about 30% of the job is selling real estate and 70% is that of therapist, counselor, hand-holder and helping people stay calm. Sometimes you have to advise a client not to buy a house or that their expectations for selling a house aren’t realistic in this market environment. It can look bleak at times in this environment, but very often, if you’re patient, we figure out a way to make it work. It was a mind-boggling deal where everyone moved out and moved in all on the same day. Whenever I’m not working, I try to spend every minute with them. We have a lake cottage and like to be there, water ski and boat. Agent started new career at the urging of family members.
