Realtor warns of rental scam in Dells area - Wisconsin Dells Events
He didn't find a phone number for contactinga person at Craigslist. But Schoenherr said he was stillgetting calls from people asking about renting the house as ofMonday. Theperson claiming to own the property says in the correspondence thathe has moved to Warsaw, Poland. And then I'm also concerned about my property ownerbecause now it's getting attention, the property, that (theproperty owner) really doesn't want it to have. She doesn't wantpeople going out there taking a look at the property to see it'sfor rent because it's not. We want to go through the normal processof Realtors where you contact a realtor to show the property. Wedon't want people just going out there on their own to look at it,"he said. Nigerian scammers find homes listed for sale on thesepublic search sites, copy the pictures and listings verbatim, andthen post the information onto Craigslist under available housingrentals, without the consent or knowledge of Craigslist, who hasbeen notified. The "homeowner" sends the prospective renteran application and tells them to send them first and last month'srent to the Nigerian scammer via Western Union. The prospectiverenter is further told If they "qualify," they will send them thekeys for their house. Once the money is wired to the scammer, theyshow up at the house, see the home is actually for sale, are unableto access the property, and their money is gone. If you don't have an account, you may register for one. See this offer Volunteer with MSCR MSCR needs volunteers ready to make a difference in ourcommunity.
